WP 7: Dissemination, Exploitation and Communication

Introduction

Introduction

WP 7 has the goal to disseminate the outcomes of the ConnectinGEO project and the ensure exploitation of the results. It has the following tasks:

  • Task 7.1: Dissemination. At the beginning of the project, many dissemination activities will be targeted by the ENEON and the PAB. Progressively the stakeholders will be more involved. To the end of the project, focus will move to funding agencies and other bodies that can influence the development of priorities of the project. This task will deal with the following items:
    • Disseminate the activities of the project into the GEOSS CoPs and actively participate in the GEO tasks, the GEO Work Plan symposiums and the GEO week, GEO European projects workshop, ...
    • Integrate ConnectinGEO outputs into the GEO Work Plan and its tasks descriptions.
    • Organise dedicated dissemination events such as workshops and symposia (including the EGU general assembly and the ESA Living Planet Symposium)
    • Participate in the GEOSS AIP for sense network integration and gap analysis.
    • Elaborate scientific literature in publication of recognized impact (see Section 2.2.2.4).
    • Participate in conferences and symposiums and in regular meeting of the observation networks.
    • Create and stimulate community portal (e.g. DiscInNet as a discussion platform for EV) including collection of best practices.
    • Participate in standards organization meetings, particularly the ones dealing with sensor and network standards. Present at OGC TC meetings and promote OGC profiles and best practices. Contribute to the GEO SIF and GEO standards registry.
    • Participate in the Data Management Principles and the Data Sharing working groups.
    • Participate in the EC Open Research Data Pilot.
    • Disseminate the ENEON with specific actions for scientist, EO networks and funding agencies.
    • Transfer the results to other relevant GEO-related FP7 and H2020 projects. Establish cooperation and agreements with relevant projects to foster knowledge of observation networks capabilities and limitations. [All]
    • Publish all documents created by the consortium under a permissive license, namely CC Attribution 4.0 (http:// creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/), allowing adaptation and usage in both research and commercial settings.
    • Dissemination through EARSC and IEEE networks to SMEs to increase the visibility and impact of the project. EARSC will be an umbrella communication partner organising the communication of the ConnectinGEO methodology, the research projects to which it applies and to advise on the exploitability of those. [EARSC]
    • EARSC portal industry discussion will bring some filter/measure or means to assess where industry considers GEOSS services exploitable and where not [EARSC].
  • Task 7.2: Exploitation. Secure an impact beyond the project ensuring reuse, exploitation and sustainability of the project activities and results. This task will deal with the following items:
    • Synthesize the results of the tasks 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 to produce a strategic document (i.e. roadmap) with the requirements for planning a future comprehensive pan-European EO and information system, as a single network of European networks. Suggest how to integrate different networks and include measures to secure the long-term sustainability of the ENEON.
    • Communicate the findings of the project to the GEO Implementation Boards, the ExCom, and, where appropriate, the GEO Plenary. Request the Integration of the Observation Catalogue in the GEOSS Common Infrastructure. Influence the process of the development of the new Implementation Plan.
    • Attend to private sector exhibitions to demonstrate the possibilities that the data provided by the ENEON observations and measurements.
    • Communicate the findings to the relevant international, national and regional funding agencies with emphasis on the found priorities.
    • Help the SMEs participating in the project to look for alternative sources of finance to allow continuation of the activities beyond the end of the project. EARSC will help on the promotion to the EO industry sector.
    • Consider a business model that allows that SMEs and private sector in general can cover some of the found gaps themselves. EARSC will help on the exploitation.
    • Populate the GEOSS S&T Portfolio.
    • Recommend improvements on the GCI to take into account priorities found (e.g. change DAB ranking system according to the project main figure).
    • Suggest incorporating the ConnectinGEO methodology into the GCI annual metrics assessment.
    • Consider how Citizen Observatories can contribute to cover gap found.
    • Implement organizational structure and legal status agreed of the ENEON board for becoming an independent body by the end of the project ensuring proper synergies with the ERA-NET GEO.
    • Influence the future Earth Observation ERA-NET of the call 2015 of Societal Challenge 5 e.g. by the involvement of the coordinator in the ERA-NET proposal and consequently, including some of the project recommendations as a frame in the scope or as a impact of future projects.
  • Task 7.3: Communication activities. Secure continuing communication of the activities and progress of the project as well as the conclusions. This task will deal with the following items (more detail on section 2.2.3):
    • Create a project's corporate image and leitmotiv.
    • Create brochures, leaflets, posters and a set of reusable illustrations and merchandizing items to communicate the project logo and the European Union image. This will be done for both the ConnectinGEO project and for the ENEON.
    • Generate regular press releases and newsletters. Contribute to newspapers and magazines.
    • Maintain the project website as the reference point for communicating and a public wiki.
    • Activate social media accounts and generate materials to keep them alive (including Twitter, LinkedIN and ResearchGate). Dynamic gadgets will be embedded in websites. This will be done for both the ConnectinGEO project and for the ENEON.
    • A specific image and web presence will be ensured for the ENEON.
    • Participate in the GEO Plenaries and in other relevant exhibitions.
    • Organize participative virtual conferences (webinars) or face to face conferences, such as science conference, different focus group meetings and a plenary conference.
    • Monitor the effectiveness of communication.
    • Produce and design a final book about ENEON and the most relevant results of the project. Produce two videos for the ENEON and for ConnectinGEO.
